Here are The Most Asked Questions Ever!!!


1) Q. What do you Use For Gear??
 
    A. I use everything you see on The Photo Page.. But My Main Guitars are My Monroe  Guitars and My  Mollenhauer LP, and soon some custom guitars I have Built over the years!!!! and Still Continue to build!!

 My main amps were always My Marshall JMP and JCM Leads But I have Been Using  Soldanos too!!!. as for Pedals I use what ever gives me the best Tones..
 
2) Q.How many Guitars and amps do you have ?.
 
    A. I used to own about 275 guitars and about 50 amps But I started thinning out my collection because I needed the Space and really didn't play many of them any more for Numerous reasons  One reason was I bought many of them as Investments and The Others I Just didn't play or need anymore .

All the ones you see on my photo page are the ones I'm keeping and use all the time. I sold off many that were never posted here a few That I have tucked away That I  sold  to collectors and players and Lovers of vintage guitars and amps that are NOT posted here...I

 Now have about 70 guitars and 20 amps .that are NOT For Sale . but that will change when Monroe starts  sending even more guitars my way! Plus Im always buying and selling guitars too.. I buy allot and sell allot too!! but not as much as I used Too!
 
3)Q. Which of your guitars is still your Favorite??
 
    A. Wow That Like asking me which one of my kids I love More LOL Its all the guitars you see in the photo Gallery!!!
 
4) Q. Do you still Love touring as much as you did 15 years ago??
 
    A. Sometimes ! It all Depends on the venue The time of year..
 
 5)  Q. Do you trust any Tabs On the Internet??

      A. Some I do and Some NO F^&KIN WAY!!!! really!!! because those Web Sites usually have transcriptions from complete MORONS Plus the transcriptions are not approved by the artists. So Beware even though there are great ones out there who rate the transcriptions to make it easier for you to decide which one is true and which one is just wrong!
 
6).Q.What Guitar Mags do you Read??

    A. I read Vintage Guitar , Guitar World and Guitar Player as well as ones from Europe Like Young Guitar  Guitars World UK And Guitaro!!!
 
7) Q. Whats The Best Mag for Lessons ?

      A. Well Guitar world has Many great Instructors as well as Featured Guitarist who shows you great tips and its also great to show and teach a song from your favorite Bands and Guitarist, but if you want to sharpen your Skill I would go to Guitar Player because many great Teachers and Legends learned from that Mag more then guitar world or guitar one .. 
 
8) Q. What is the EQ setting on your Amps When you are playing live ???

     A. The Normal setting on all my Soldano's  or Marshalls Heads Or Combos is Usually Gain 7 to 10 Volume 4 to 6   Bass;7or8  Mid; 3 Treb 4 Presence is at 3or 4  Master Vol 4or5 for my Heads it the same unless there is no presence or Reverb.
    Of Course this is Depending on the song etc but that's the setting for 98% of every tune I play the only thing that really changes is the Gain and Master volume settings.
 
9) Q. what do you Normally use for Speaker Cabs?

    A. Always Marshalls  cabs and Now My Soldano l Cabs All Loaded 212's and412's with Celestions Either GM12-70 or 75,s or Vintage 30s except for many classic vintage fenders which all have Jensons which have a very clean tone to them  hence why fender is still the best clean sound amp ever!
 
10) Q.  what do you use for effects Live??

    A . MY  pedal board is relatively simple. I prefer  floor stomp boxes to rack gear ANY DAY!!. The most utilized piece in the chain below is the Overdrive/Preamp which is used to slam the front end of the amps.

  • Ibanez TS-9 Tubscreamer
  • Ibanex Ts808 Tubescreamer
  • Dunlop   wah-wah.
  • Boss NS-2 Noise gate.
  • Boss DD-2 digital delay.
  • Boss CE-3 chorus.
  • Boss CS-2 compressor/sustainer.
  • Boss BF-2 Flanger.
  • Boss octave box.
  • Boss EQ
  • MXR Phase 90
  • MORLEY A/B PEDAL FOR BOTH AMPS!!!
  • DIGITECH RP 500 FOR SMALL AN MID SIZE VENUES AND STUDIO TOO!!

  • I use a Morley A/B pedals where my guitar is Plugged in the Middle and amp#1(Marshall RiggPictured Above with 412 Cab) are in the A Position and my PEDALS  are Plugged in  Amp#2 ( Soldano HR 50 with 412 Cab) and all my stomp boxes in the B Position.
     
    11). Q.what do you recommend for someone who wants do upgrade their Gear??

         A. Well first of all ! What ever sounds good to your ear. because what sounds good to one is crap to another .

    . Its that simple.. So Shop around and test allot of gear,, I still do that today even though I have Great Guitars in my collection which is always expanding plus having an Endorsement with a Great Company like Monroe  Guitars Helps too. But in the end its still what sounds great to you!!! Plus you don't always have to pay allot  to get allot.
     
    12)   Q. What do you use for tubes on all of you Amps???


           A. I use JJ Teslas on all my amps.. I have groove tubes in some of my older amps and its getting harder to find good sovteks,


     13)Q. what do you use for Picks and Strings.?

         A. For Picks I use Jim Dunlop 2.0mm  Gator Grips. as for strings I use Curt Mangan .010 to.046 for all my electrics as for acoustics I use Curt Mangan Bronze .012 .
     
    12) Q. Have you ever done any Ghost playing session work Before? what is a Ghost player???


         A. Yes I have and still do every so often. A ghost player is any Musician whom does session work for bands or an artist for a One time Pay out and relieves no royalties or credit on the CD for which they worked on! what I mean by this is .
     
    Say there is a band who has a famous guitar player in it but he is not up to par or is too loaded to play!! This happens more then you think!! what will happen sometimes is that they will hire someone like me or whom ever to play on the CD be it one song or three ..and we then will sign a disclosure agreement which usually comes with strict terms Like you can never State whom you worked for , you will not receive Royalties nor Artist Credit. and you will get a decent check for your trouble. the cool part is that it pays the bills on those slow years..
     
     13) Q What do you use for guitar Cables?
          A. I Mainly use Monster Cables on everything ...
     
     14) Q.Do you ever D Tune any of your Guitars??
          A. Yes I do I also tune to DADGAD and Have Been Known to tune down to C too..but usually i and tuned to Eb or a half step doen from A-440.
     

    15) Q. What equipment do you have in your home studio Now??

         A. In the main studio which is 5 miles from my home I Have a Mackie D88 and an Otari MX55 Reel 2 Reel  as well , with Advent Speakers   as well as some Bose speakers and for a Sub Woofers I have 2 12' Jensons that do the Job well..


      I Also have a Tascam  4800 24 digital I use to Mix and master with my pro Tools I have That At My Home Studio and I also use a Alesis Midifex and a few cool FX Processers That Digitech sent me.. and I have many reel to reels as well  as for my home just goto the photos page there are pix of both home and main studio there!

    16) Q. How Do I get a good demo Recorded and how do I get it to the right people?


         A. First of all you need to write for your self . and write what makes you happy ,, Unless you want to be a complete Yes Man or your into being the Flavor of the Month . Then just fallow the cookie cutters out there..


        Get yourself some good recording gear and practice all the songs you intend to record and begin .. Now The good part will be mixing and getting it mastered to where it will be Release ready... There are many books and DVDs as well as even schools for this exact subject .. Then make sure you copyright everything that way there no one can steel you ideas or music at all.... That's ah must because I have seen too many great bands get F$%KED that way!!

    Also make sure that even your Band name is trademarked and copyright that as well as your pics and web site and even your Myspace page should you choose to go that route too. Because the Little unknown is The first to get screwed because the big Maggot labels think no one will notice!
     
    17) Q. Do you think its okay to Add some cover tunes to your set lists when you go on the road??

         A. Whether I think its okay or not isn't the issue its a matter of how much original Material do you have and how much of it is worth playing to the masses because we all have had to play covers just to get out there in the beginning and Now I just play maybe 5 Covers and that because I like those songs and not because I have to because they are whats in at the time...

     In the end it should be what you want and like ,, Not everyone will like your stuff !!!Thats just the way it is  and to those who don't Screw them!!! In the end its your passion not some  asshole who is looking for the flavor of the day!!!!


    Some people play just covers and if thats what makes them happy then what ever but I didn't get into this Bizz to play other peoples shit !! Its That Simple and when I do play a cover its from a band I like Not some flavor of the Month....
     
    18) Q.Will you Ever work with anyone From Mojo Bag again??

           A. I really doubt that because Terry is playing with a Band Called FRED and he is very happy doing that plus we have not spoken to each other in ages Chris Bradshaw is Playing in a Band Called Double Barrel and we haven't spoken in Months either.

     As for Kat she is working on new songs with her new band and I will Never work with Ray Stewart again Towards the end of it all we just were not Digging each other anymoreLOL!!!
    ...I'm more Happy Just being a solo artist anyway I really don't want to play Just Covers and I think The Label I'm signed to would agree as well!!! plus i have a Great Band too! and as you know Razors Edge Is back together Plu I have Davey and Lane Too so I'm always busy!!!
     
    19)Q What do you look for in a band member??

         A. Well first  they need to be able to play !!LOL And second be Able to put 110% into it PERIOD!!! Because if you are not willing to put 110% into it then I do not want to be in a band with you !!Its that Simple!!  

     If all you want to do is play covers then fine if that's what makes you happy ! you just wont't be in a band with me. Because as I said before I only play 5 Covers per show and they are what I want to play and the rest are originals..

     Besides Labels don't sign cover Bands,,, and to all those who are Pissed about what I just said ,, I have only this to say.. I DONT SEE ANYONE MAKING A GUITAR WITH YOUR NAME ON IT!!!! Because you don't get endorsements from being in a cover Band!!! In order to be able to make a living at music you have to go full and at 110% or pack it up!! Go Hard Or go Home!~!!
    I hope that will finally put that chapter to bed!!!
     
     
         20) Q Will you ever Re-Release your first 4CDs that you recorded in the 90's??

    21) Q. Why Did you Leave Bunker Records after 9 Years of being on that Label??
     
          A. For many reasons . After Hanse Sold the Label I started have many Creative Differences with The New Owners and Their Management and after many months of being unhappy and Allot of Negotiations , both parties decided to Call it a day and Part ways!!! Effective Dec 1st 2008 That's what will be Happening..
     
    22)Q. When and where was your first Paying Gig???
     
          A. It was in 1985 At Portsmouth Junior High and we got Paid 75.00!!!!
     
    23) Q.Who was your first guitar Teacher??
          A. Brian Richardson and he still teaches today!!
     
    24)Q. Who were you biggest Influences??
         A. Too Many to Name Really!!!But The Guy Up Top Brian Richardson  was The Biggest!!!


    25 Q.will you be Re-releasing all your old CDs on your New Label??
     
        A. Yes all The Albums that were on Bunker Records Including the 2 in Miss print will be Re-Released on T5 Records Dec 1st 2008 with New Art work and some will even have Bonus Trax too..     26) Q. Will You be running everything at your label??
     
        A. yes To a Point !! I have hired a few great People whom will be taking care of my bookings and tours as well as promotions and marketing and all the crazy things that you need to do in order to have a Label!!! and have secured Distribution with  EMI as well  as  Zoomoozik and last.fm and Hollywoodmusic and  mp3.com as well as last.fm ,

    I am also working with EMI as well I will have all my music on my label and will have control of all of it but they will do the International Distribution as well as National and with MP3.com and Hollywoodmusic will be other great places to Buy all my CDs..
     
     27) Q Was T5 Records Named after your Studio or your CD with The same Name??

           A. BOTH LOL!!!

    28) Q.What is your favorite CD that you have recorded to date??

          A. Without a doubt right now its Medicine Man!!!

    29) Q What is your Favorite Band of All Time??

          A. JudasPriest with Iron Maiden in 2nd and Queensryche and Testament running for 3rd .. enerybody thought it was Kiss.. but that's a solid 10th place ..

    30) Q. You Mentioned Core Values and having a Code!! What do you mean by that??
      

         A. Its Really Simple !!!These are the Core values!!!!

    Its been asked of me by a fan what my core values are . the reason why he has asked this was because i mentioned them so much in interviews as well as when i'm doing guitar clinics

    So here you go !!

    These are my core values as follows!!! the scary part is that some of you really  had to ask what i meant by core values !!!!!!

    Part#1 FEB,8TH 2009


    Part I

    K.I.M.: Tell us about your music.

    Allan: My music is the way im feeling at the time it is me in every way, which is always metal fusion and guitars guitars and more guitars...

    K.I.M.: When did you first start playing

    Allan: I was 10


    K.I.M: Who are some of the guitarist that influenced you?

    Allan: George Lynch, Al Dimeola , Frank Gambale and Alan Holdsworth as well as Glenn Tipton an KK Downing and Dave Murry and Adrian Smith as well as John Sykes and about 20 other guitar legends of metal and rock


    K.I.M.: What's your opinion on the metal scene in America??

    Allan: Its always a changing situation!! But there are still major metal fans in the US that are not interested in the flavor of the month..


    K.I.M.: You've been overseas, how are you doing in europe & japan?

    Allan: Better then I thought I would seeings that my latest CD "GREED" is doing better there..


    K.I.M.: Looking for a label?

    Allan: Well I have a good one now that I own .. But as for a label that can do more in the ways of distribution and more promo, then that would be a great fit for me because its not easy owning an indi label !!

    Part II

    K.I.M.: What was you first band?

    Allan: My first band was EZ Action (later would be renamed RAZORS EDGE)..

    K.I.M.: You've played & toured with Ben Orr (The Cars), what was that like ?

    Allan: It was cool because I onlly had to when Ben wanted to play out plus I never had to record with him so it was always fun . plus he was the main reason why my career launched off..

    K.I.M.: You graduated from Burklee College Of Music, how has this helped your career?

    Allan: It helps as far as reading and writing music!! But as for performing and making music , I think I still would have had a good career..

    K.I.M.: You've also made three instructional DVDs, tell us a little about that and do you plan to make more?

    Allan: Yes I have made three 1) ADVANCED SOLOING 2) NECK NAVIGATION #1 3) NECK NAVIGATION #2 but I still haven't decided on when or if I will make another one

    K.I.M.: Do you prefer being solo rather than being in a band?

    Allan: Well there really is no difference to me because everyone in my band gets a say on what we play that night and how they record their parts on an album..


    Part III

    K.I.M.: Let's talk about your latest CD "Greed". How is this different from your previous CDs?

    Allan: Well its alot harder then my last cd (CHAPTER 10) and the production budget was bigger and the songs just kept getting bigger and better as I wrote and recorded them.. which anyone who has ever bought an ALLAN DAVEY CD will tell yah that I'm a big advocate in always evolving.

    K.I.M: How much production time went into making it?

    Allan: Allot!!! A large amount of time and man hours as well as additional musicians and paying those musicians as well as many nights mixing and mastering and editing ECT ECT ECT !!!!

    K.I.M: As it happens to so many bands, has your passion turned into "work" ?

    Allan: NO because the minute I feel like that I have to take a step back and revisit past places that remind me why I still do it!

    K.I.M.: What's next for Allan Davey?

    Allan: More touring then another album and even more touring as well as guitar clinics and next years winter NAAM ..and in late 2009 early 2010 a new CD is in the works..


    K.I.M.: I gotta ask, Shots or beer?

    1. Give us a quick rundown, who you are, and what your music is about?
    Well everything from METAL TO SHRED!! Just take a listen to the trax i

    2. What is touring like for you, do you have groupies?
    Touring is the reason why I still do this and have been since the age of 14 but
    some times it gets really old when your on the road for almost 2 years..
    I STILL LOVE TOURING STILL!! This year its been fun and has made my new CD greed do well . As for groupies i guess I still have a few but i'm in
    a serious relationship so its not really an issue for me!!

    3. What are your thoughts on the oxymoron of Christian Metal?
    IT IS TOTAL BULL SHIT!!
    Well they figured out they could make money and try to scam young metal fans into becoming hypocrites like them!!
    As far as i'm concerned there is no christian metal just greed with all the
    jim Bakers and other ultra conservatives of the world!!when they
    figured out how to use this genre as an outlet for their agenda!!

    4. What do you think of the new Metallica, and how this supposed to be the release that they return to their roots?

    Well I have heard it and i'm glad they have a great bass player like
    trujillio but As for returning back to their roots that still up in
    air!!

    5. Have you been able to live off of profits from your music?
    I'm doing well but that's because i did listen to the right people from the
    start!! ones that were in the business along time and showed me the
    do's and don'ts, plus the indy label i'm on i own75% of now which helps
    greatly

    6. In response to the question above, if so what do
    each of the members of the band do, to support themselves outside of
    the band?
    yah besides being in my band they do many studio gigs as well as tour when they ar not touring with me ..
    My bass player Rob Salva also have a cool solo album he is recording as
    well and my drummer Ritchie Skarlettie teaches clinics and does many
    studio sessions and when i'm not recording or touring I'm producing as
    well as doing clinics for my endorsements

    7. What bands have been cool to you, and what bands have been total dicks?
    For the most part I have been very lucky I haven't had any problems with
    anyone on the road but when i was younger i met Richie Blackmore and he
    was an asshole..

    8. What is the metal scene like in your area?
    Do you have a lot of local supporters, have you seen any of your
    releases in the local music stores?
    Then scene in my home state is dead for the most part maybe 5 bands are holding the torch but in Florida its always rockin ! besides you can get my cds everywhere now

    9. Which release is your personal favorite?
    Its has to be the one i'm working on now because as much AS GREED its my best cd to date the next one will smoke it!!!

    10. What are the biggest influences for your music?
    Way too many to name!! really!!

    11. What are your thoughts on Christianity, and the followers of Christianity?

    Christianity does not bother me, just the people whom push it and then
    get caught doing the same thing they preach against and think they can
    be forgiven for being lying shit balls!!

    12. Do you support someone downloading your music off of a peer to peer site?
    “Of course, this way a lot more people are exposed to my music which means
    a lot more people show up at my shows and buy my CDs as well I'm not
    greedy at all!!
